Ollie Millroy Hails Loek Hartog After Terrifying Shanghai Racing Explosion: “I Owe You My Life”
Ollie Millroy has thanked Loek Hartog for pulling him from a burning Ferrari after a terrifying China GT crash at Shanghai International Circuit. Millroy later described serious injuries, a major memory gap, and a rescue he believes saved his life.
The incident happened during China GT’s fourth 2026 round, held in Shanghai this weekend. Millroy was driving for the FIST Team AAI’s No. 91 Ferrari 296 GT3 EVO alongside Chen Yin Yu, while Hartog raced Phantom Global Racing’s No. 79 Porsche 911 GT3 R EVO with Li Ning, according to 51GT3.
Millroy Credits Hartog With Getting Him Out
Millroy published the following Instagram statement following the crash:
“Thanks to one individual, I find myself alive this evening. @loekhartog_ immediately stopped, even in the absence of flag marshals or firefighting personnel, and put his own safety at risk to extricate me from the vehicle. My memory is blank from half a minute before the impact to an hour later, but I will forever remember his remarkable courage. Someday, I will share this experience with our three children, and Loek will undoubtedly be their greatest hero.
“Currently, I am in bed with five fractured ribs, a broken collarbone, a damaged hand and finger, and a bruised lung, but the situation could have been significantly worse.
“Thank you Loek. I owe you my life for your selfless act today.
“I appreciate all the supportive messages I’ve received. Now that I have a few days to rest, I will try to respond to everyone. I definitely feel fortunate tonight. Fern is on her way here, and I am with my team, my Taiwanese family from Team AAI. Tomorrow, I have a couple of surgeries to fix my injuries, and then I will need some weeks to recuperate here before I can travel.”
The crash included drivers Millroy, David Chen, and Neil Verhagen. The race was red-flagged and didn’t resume.
A Racer’s Rescue, And A Long Recovery
While the racing driver listed a number of physical injuries, he also confirmed his memory disappeared from approximately 30 seconds before the crash until an hour afterward.
He now expects two operations over the next day or so, followed by several weeks of recovery in China before he can travel.
The Porsche Carrera Cup North America champion joined Phantom Global Racing for four rounds of the five-round China GT season.
